In today’s world, where sustainability and environmental consciousness are at the forefront of many conversations, few voices stand out as vibrant as Bridget Parlato’s.

Not only is Bridget an incredible eco-artist, I’m lucky enough to also call her a dear friend.

Through our years of friendship I have watched her stretch and grow as an artist in numerous mediums to include graphic and digital design, jewelry design, and now author and illustrator.

Bridget has dedicated her career to raising awareness about environmental issues through her captivating artwork and storytelling. Her latest creation, Plastic Land: A True Trash Tale About Plastics, is a true testament to her commitment to inspiring change.

Meet Bridget Parlato: Artist and Advocate

Bridget Parlato isn’t your typical artist. Her work transcends traditional art forms, blending advocacy and creativity to tackle some of the most pressing issues of our time. Bridget’s interdisciplinary approach allows her to convey powerful messages that resonate with audiences of all ages.

In addition to her artistic pursuits, Bridget works part-time with the Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and revitalizing Baltimore’s waterfront. She is also the founder of Baltimore Trash Talk, a civic group whose goal is to raise awareness of how trash impacts our communities and how we can work together to lessen these negative impacts. These roles further cements her dedication to environmental stewardship and community engagement.

Plastic Land: A Rhyming Tale of Trash and Transformation

At the heart of Bridget’s creative portfolio is Plastic Land: A True Trash Tale About Plastics, a book that weaves together clever rhymes and vivid illustrations to tell the story of our relationship with plastic. This rhyming trash tale invites readers to explore how plastics are made, what happens to plastic waste, and why it poses such a significant environmental challenge.

Through her engaging storytelling, Bridget Parlato demystifies the complex world of plastics, making it accessible and relatable to readers of all ages. The book’s rich, flowing illustrations bring the narrative to life, offering a visual journey that captivates the imagination.

Educating the Next Generation

Plastic Land isn’t just a story; it’s an educational tool designed to inspire action. The book includes a parent/teacher guide and a series of investigative challenges, making it a fun, valuable resource for introducing children to environmental and material science, waste management, and sustainability.

Parents, caregivers, teachers, Scouting groups and libraries can use Plastic Land to spark important conversations about the materials we use every day and their impact on our planet. By connecting young minds with the waste we produce, Bridget Parlato empowers the next generation to make informed, sustainable decisions that can positively impact our environment.

Interactive Learning with Worksheets

To further engage young readers, Plastic Land offers interactive worksheets that encourage kids to identify “trash” in their homes. This hands-on approach not only reinforces the book’s message but also fosters critical thinking and problem-solving skills. It challenges children to consider how they can reduce waste and make eco-friendly choices in their daily lives.
